Written by on 2 July 2020

Chesterfield Borough Council is developing options for establishing a lasting memorial to the people of Chesterfield who have sadly lost their lives during the coronavirus pandemic, and to also recognise the fantastic work of the borough’s key workers and volunteers.

Cllr Tricia Gilby, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “Coronavirus (COVID-19) has had a huge impact on our communities with many people experiencing the devastating loss of family members and friends as a result of the pandemic.

“We feel that it is important to establish a lasting memorial to those that have sadly lost their lives but also to recognise and thank our remarkable key workers and volunteers who continue to work so hard in support of our residents and communities.”

Plans are at an early stage and will involve the development of a variety of options to create a lasting memorial for future generations to visit, reflect and remember. Chesterfield Borough Council will release further information on emerging options and ways for the public to get involved in the Autumn.
