Matt Hancock Announces NO Change to Tiers for Derbyshire

Written by on 17 December 2020

Matt Hancock MP, the secretary fo state for Health, announced no changes to the tiering system for Derbyshire in the House of Commons just now.

This comes after cases dipped at the start of December with recent increases in case numbers across the county. Lee Rowley, MP for North East Derbyshire, posted on Facebook this morning outlining his requests to Government for our area to be moved from Tier 3 to Tier 2, although was sceptical whether his requests would be granted. He said “I pushed for our area to be in tier 2 last time and have heavily pushed again over recent days.

“in Derbyshire, case rates and hospitalisations are on the rise again. Positive rates in Derbyshire actually dipped as low as 120 in early December and then started to rise. They are up by 20% in the last week. That’s a pretty big issue and heading in the wrong direction.

“I genuinely don’t know what the experts will recommend today and my guess is that it could go either way.”

Last week Toby Perkins, MP for Chesterfield, also called for the area’s tier to be changed.
