Chesterfield Motor Fest postponed until 2021

Chesterfield Motor Fest, which was scheduled to take place in August 2020, has been postponed until 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Motor Fest has quickly become one of Chesterfield’s most popular annual town centre events with thousands of people turning out to support it last year. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions on large public gatherings, Chesterfield Borough Council and the event organisers have jointly taken the difficult decision to cancel the event, but plans are already being formulated to make it bigger and better than ever in 2021.
Councillor Kate Sarvent, cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “I’m sure many people will be disappointed with the decision to cancel this event. However, public safety is both the council’s and the organiser’s top priority, and with the current restrictions it simply isn’t possible to maintain safe social distancing at such an event.
“I know how hard Adrian, Bev and the Motor Fest team have been working on this year’s event and we look forward to working with them over the next 12 months to bring this brilliant event back to Chesterfield town centre.”
Motor Fest started in 2018 and is organised by regular Chesterfield Market traders, Adrian Ashton and Bev Thomas, with the support of Chesterfield Borough Council and local businesses.
Adrian Ashton, spokesperson for the Chesterfield Motor Fest team, said: “I’m proud of the way we’ve managed to put Motor Fest on the map over the last three years and it’s really unfortunate that we can’t hold the event this year because of the coronavirus outbreak.
“But we have already started to work on next year’s event, which will be bigger and better than it has ever been. I hope that lots of people will turn out and show their support in 2021.”
It is hoped that Motor Fest can return on 15 August 2021.
Further updates about Motor Fest and other town centre events will appear on the council’s website and social media channels as they are announced.
